Thomas-Gillis Family Tapestry


On my dad's side of the family (Thomas side), my grandma's maiden last name was Rothrock. Years ago in Germany, her family had a title and castle located here. Today, you can still visit this castle (which I have not traveled too yet), or at least what is left of it. When I think of medieval castles my mind instinctively imagines tapestries decorating the royal halls. I decided to create a modern tapestry as an ode to my royal German roots. I chose these three colors because they remind me of home. The two palm leaves are symbolic of my California home where I was born and raised. I featured both my parents family crests on each side of the tapestry; one for my Thomas family (dad's side) and the other for my Gillis family (mom's side).
