OBJECT #1 - Cornhole Set
This set was handmade by a friend and was purposefully created blank so that I could use it as a canvas for this project! I wanted to have a creation themed series. On the boards I intentionally portrayed light and dark/morning and night on this, which combines day 3 (dry ground/plants) and day 4 (sun, moon, and stars) of the Genesis 1 Creation Story together.
OBJECT #2 - Post-It Note Line Art
I was scrambling to find objects due to just moving in and not having a whole studio around me, when I realized that my Post-It notes would be fun to create a pixelized canvas with gaps between so that your brain has to form in the image. I still wanted to keep the creation theme for this piece as well and created a woman to represent nature (a Mother Nature type character) and had her hair morph into ocean like movements. I wanted this woman to be literally connected to nature without creating a cliche Eve character. I then placed a woman surfing in the hair to help portray the ocean movements of the hair.
OBJECT #3 - Mirror Line Art
I used an Expo Marker and my vanity mirror for this piece. In keeping with the theme of creation, I wanted to portray how we see ourself changes through life. A year ago today I saw my face differently than I do today. I have grown to appreciate myself more and how I was created to be. There are features we all wish to change, but there is a beauty to our original design even if we do not see it. This has been an area of growth for me which is why there is a plant growing out of the head of the woman.

OBJECT #4 - Ukulele
For my fourth object I chose my Ukulele that I got as a graduation gift for going into 9th grade. I have been wanting to paint this for years, but have been hesitant because I did not want to mess it up! This project allowed me to get out of my comfort zone and paint my treasured instrument. I always knew I was going to incorporate the ocean and surfing on the backside of this, and since my theme was creation it just made sense to use this as one of my objects. This was a fun object to paint and it ties into the theme of creation quite literally. I used the same model from the Post-It Note art for this to bring to parallel the theme. I love surfing and the ocean and this ukulele is from Hawaii so it just made sense to me that these two were painted on the backside.
OBJECT #5 - Wood Burn Art
The final object in the series is a little scrap piece of wood that I bought from a local Santa Barbara craft store my sophomore year of college but found no use for it until now. This piece was a three part process. First I prepped the wood and burned in the tree. Next, I painted white and gold over it and sanded it down. I repeated this step until I was satisfied with the rustic look. Then, lastly, I wood burned over the existing tree and outlined it so that it would stand out over the paint. This tree parallels with the creation theme by representing the Tree of Life from the Genesis Creation Story. This tree has mystical properties, which is portrayed by the gold in the wood. However, this tree also brought catastrophic consequences, which is why the tree is dead and barren.
